But you can build a stable, robust platform frame for your king mattress for less than $ 100. This project takes one to two hours dedicated construction time plus dry time if you choose to paint. These plans are for a standard king mattress, but you can use them for a California king by adjusting the work dimensions. Mount two 74-inch beams and two 76-inch beams in a rectangle rest on their 2-cm wide sides. Arrange them so that 76-inch beams are inside 74-inch beams. Place the third 76-inch beam inside the king size bed frame you have built in the middle and parallel to the other 76-inch beams. Connect it to 74-inch beams in the same way as you did the others. Place the plywood board on top of the frame so that it overlaps each edge of an inch. Screw it in place with a wooden screw in each corner. Screw with five wooden screws, evenly distributed, drilled through the shelf and into the beam behind. Repeat for the other end with a second plank.
