Platform beds – are bed that sits on the tip of a workshop frame. If you want to build a children’s platform bed, you can do so easily with a few pieces of hardwood grade furniture, but you must have security in mind. It cannot make the platform bed high enough that a child would fight at or be hurt if it fell out. Measure the length and width of your child’s bed mattress with a tape measure. This gives you the dimensions of your platform bed frame. Cut two pieces of 1-inch-thick-by-24-inch-wide wood boards to the required length with a saw or table saw. These plates are the sides of the platform bed.
Then, cut two 1-inch-thick pieces of wood boards 24 inches wide to a 2-inch shorter width as needed. This represents the bulk of the dressers. These two joints are the headboard and footboard of the platform beds. Drill four evenly spaced 1/4 inch holes across each sideboard about ½ inches down each end of the boards. Place the side dressers on their 1-inch sides and head and foot position on their 1-inch sides. Align the shorter boards at the ends of the sides. Drive 1/4-inch-diameter screws 2 inches long through the holes in the sides and at the headboard and stirrup. Screws slightly to ensure your child can not be caught in the screws.
Cut plywood 1/2 inch thick furniture-grade to the dimensions. And then place the wood on the top of the bed frame. This creates the platform beds for the mattress to rest on. Drill evenly the 1/4 inch holes in each corner and approximately every 12 inches down the sides. Position the holes 1/2 inch into the edges of the plywood. Drive 1/4-inch-diameter by 2-inch long wood screws even though holes in plywood and structure. Stain or structure to your desired color and wait for the paint or stain to dry before painting. Place the child’s mattress on top of plywood.
